About the Farm

DeMaria Family

Hemlock Hill Farm is run by the DeMaria family, who have farmed this land in Cortlandt Manor since 1939. Laura DeMaria represents the third generation, working alongside John and Pedro to keep the operation family-run end to end. It started when Nicolas J. DeMaria bought the 120-acre property, and John later expanded it into direct meat sales and on-farm butchery. Three generations in, the family still raises, processes, and sells its meat on the same land, which is rare for a farm this close to New York City.

The rundown

Hemlock Hill Farm is a third-generation family farm in Cortlandt Manor, New York, raising pasture-raised meats on 120 acres of pasture and woodland in northern Westchester County. The DeMaria family has owned the land since 1939, and today the farm raises cattle, pigs, lambs, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, and seasonal turkeys, with everything sold through its year-round farm market, meat CSA, and bulk purchase program.

What sets Hemlock Hill apart is the full-circle model: animals are raised on the farm, processed through Macelleria DeMaria, the farm's own USDA-inspected butcher shop, and sold directly through the market on the same property. That's an unusually short path from pasture to counter, and it means the people raising the animals are also the ones cutting and selling the meat. The market also carries local eggs, cheese, produce, and pantry goods from other Hudson Valley farms and makers.

For customers, Hemlock Hill works as a true farm-to-butcher-to-market stop rather than a typical grocery run. The farm store is open year-round, Monday through Saturday from 8 to 6 and Sunday from 8 to 4, with in-store pickup only and no shipping at this time. For anyone who wants local beef, pork, lamb, goat, and poultry with fewer middlemen between farm and table, it's one of the stronger options in the region.
